It's a Strange world, Sandy

This public service commercial to "clean up new york" was directed by David Lynch and photographed by Frederick Elmes. Perhaps the scariest commercial ever made.

David Lynch turns sixty-eight today, and this PSA from 1991 is as fine a reason as any to celebrate his whirling brain. Shot with director of photography Frederick Elmes (of Blue Velvet fame), the one minute clip certainly paints a discomfiting portrait of litterers and garbage and New York with its rats, etc. Still, I can't help but notice a hint of glee from the man behind the camera as he leans into the writhing mess of the city.
